Retail displays in a flash!

A leading UK retail display design company has just produced a unique and stylish “attention seeking” display unit for Halfords containing a built in “speed camera” style flash unit that “captures the attention” of shoppers as they pass the stand and activate the inbuilt motion sensor.

Crusader, the shop and display equipment specialist who design and manufacture tailor made retail and point of sale units for leading UK and international companies has just completed the production of the units to promote speed camera detectors for use by motorists.

The display units contain a movement sensor and powerful flash light that is activated by shoppers passing the display stand, thus mimicking the effect of being “flashed” by a speed camera whilst driving.

The contract won by Crusader, which is valued at in excess of £130,000, included working with the initial concepts and ideas of Halfords and developing working drawings that kept all the original design features. These drawings were transformed into a full prototype within 3 weeks before full production commenced at the company’s headquarters and manufacturing facilities based at Failsworth in Manchester.

The flashing display units have been designed to house speed camera detectors for sale to motorists requiring advanced warning of accident black spots which are often identified by the presence of speed cameras.

The units were constructed using a combination of vacuum formed plastic and steel which was powder coated in black and incorporated the client’s graphics producing a corporate stand in keeping with internal store layouts.

Steve Turner, director for Crusader said “Retail is becoming more and more competitive and we are designing and producing increasingly innovative retail stands that not only need to display the client’s products in a clear way, but also need to grab the attention of shoppers who are faced by increasing choice” Steve continued “This was a fantastic project for us as it used our full range of design and manufacturing services and was completed to such a high standard in a very short time.

Crusader was commissioned by Halfords in the middle of September and has completed the manufacture of 370 units within 8 weeks. Full rollout of the units into the all Halford stores was completed in November.

Crusader currently employs 50 experienced staff with turnover in the region of £2.7m per year. The company will soon be celebrating 40 successful years in business at its current home in Manchester.
