Crusader making high street impact

A leading UK retail display design company is making a significant impact on the high street with the completion of another £1million prestigious project for a well known leading retailer.

Crusader, the shop and display equipment specialist who design and manufacture tailor made retail and point of sale units for leading UK and international companies has just completed a further phase in the production of stock holding and display units for Boots The Chemists.

The current phase of the contract has seen the completion of 200 units over the first 18 months of the staged contract with a further 60 due for completion over the next 12 months.

The display units are a “galley concept” open display system that allows for increased stock density and product impact in a smaller area and is part of a programme of pharmacy refurbishments currently being undertaken by Boots. All the units are manufactured, packed and despatched from Crusaders head office and manufacturing facility based in Failsworth, Manchester.

In addition to requiring a smaller footprint, the units had to be produced with hygiene and cleanliness in mind, with less dust traps than traditional units and a bright clean appearance. Steel and acrylic was chosen as primary materials and this enables the units to stay looking cleaner and brighter for longer.

Steve Turner, director for Crusader said “As well as designing and producing units that display the products clearly, we are getting more requests to look at the whole merchandising aspect of point of sale equipment. There is more and more competition for space in store and we need to produce units that give a feeling of space, but actually take up less room.” Steve continued “The project for Boots has now been running for 18 months and has proved a great success: the units look fantastic on site and we are looking forward to working with Boots on similar projects in the very near future”

Crusader produces the units in kit form and despatch up to 8 per week direct to store where shop fitters are able to put together the units in only 4 hours. This is a 75% time saving on similar traditional non kit systems which would typically take 2 days to construct.

Crusader currently employs 50 experienced staff with turnover in the region of £2.7m per year. The company will soon be celebrating 40 successful years in business at its current home in Manchester.
